What is Collaborative Law and why is it a superior alternative over traditional divorce?

In short, Collaborative Law is a new way to resolve disputes by removing the disputed matter from the courtroom setting and treating the process as a way to troubleshoot and problem-solve rather than fighting it out in court.

The hope of every Collaborative attorney is to see their client better off after a divorce than they were before the process began. They use the tools of Collaborative Law to enhance the communication between spouses, so that the issues in a divorce can be handled and resolved in a respectful way. In turn, the improved communication and cooperation toward an amiable solution will lay a foundation for a healthier relationship after the divorce, especially important when there are children involved.

What are the rules of the Collaborative Process?

No Court: Neither party may seek or threaten court action to resolve disputes.

Win-Win Solutions: The primary goal for both parties is to come up with an agreement that works for everyone involved.

Protecting Children: Both parties agree to shield the children from the children and minimize the impact of divorce on them.

Respect: The parties agree to act with respect and avoid disparaging or vilifying anyone involved in the process, especially each other.
